How did we do?
From L to R: Rep. Drew Springer, Rep. J.D. Sheffield, Sen. Donna Campbell, Gov. Greg Abbott, Rep. Giovanni Capriglione, Rep. Cindy Burkett & Rep. Jodie Laubenberg, at the signing of HB 13
The Special Session called by Governor Greg Abbott is officially over, so how did we do protecting life? As you know, pro-lifers already had A LOT to celebrate from the Regular Session, and we were ecstatic when the Governor placed five bills to protect life on the call for the Special Session.
Four of the five passed, giving us over a dozen victories for Life!
Texans for Life is grateful to Governor Abbott, Lieutenant Dan Patrick, Speaker Joe Straus, as well as the bill authors and Committee Chairmen like Senator Charles Schwertner and Representative Byron Cook.
Here's a look at what we'll be celebrating at this year's Annual Benefit Dinner with special guest, Jay Sekulow:
Regular Session
Felony ban on partial birth abortions that Texas can enforce
Ban on dismemberment abortions
Ban on sale, donation or research of fetal remains from elective abortion
Humane disposition of fetal remains required
Felony ban on forced abortion in connection with sex trafficking
Clinics required to post sex trafficking hotline in restrooms
Alternatives to Abortion fund doubled
Conscience protection for foster families not wanting to assist with abortion
IVF patients to be informed of embryo adoption option
Special Session:
Hospitals required to report abortion complications apart from maternal health complications
Ban on insurance coverage of abortion
Expanded reporting of minors' abortions
DNR reform to protect patients' rights
As you can see, pro-life Texans have a lot to celebrate! Texas already has the second lowest birth rate among the 10 most populous states, having cut our rate of abortions per 1,000 women by two-thirds!
Don't miss your opportunity to join the party with lawmakers and others who helped us get the bills to the Governor's desk! Tickets are going fast already. Can't wait to celebrate with you!
Yours for Life,
Kyleen Wright, President
